Evernote IMAP Alpha

Evernote's IMAP support is currently experimental. We cannot guarantee that it will work consistently. If you wish to try it, follow the instructions below.

Configuring an iPhone

  • Tap Settings
  • Tap Mail
  • Tap Add Account
  • Tap Other when the following screen appears: Add account screen
  • Tap IMAP and ensure it is highlighted on the following screen: Account setup screen
  • Enter a Name, Address, and Description
  • Incoming Mail Server
    • Host name: m.evernote.com
    • User Name: your Evernote user name
    • Password: your Evernote password
  • Outgoing Mail Server
    • Use the Host Name, User Name, and Password for your existing outgoing mail server to forward mail
  • Tap Save
  • Return to the main iPhone screen
  • Tap Settings
  • Tap Mail
  • Tap the name of the account you just created
  • Tap Advanced and ensure the Incoming Settings are set as:
    • Use SSL: OFF
    • Authentication: Password
    • Server Port: 143
  • You’re done!

Viewing notes on the iPhone

  • Tap Mail from the main screen
  • Tap the name of the account you created above
  • Your IMAP Inbox will display your notebooks and searches, and tags as shown in the example below: Screenshot of inbox folder, and nested folders

Configuring a Windows Mobile 5 Device

  • Tap Start
  • Tap Messaging (This option may be in Tools)
  • Tap New Account
  • Enter your Evernote incoming email address* in the Email Setup screen (1/5) as shown below and tap Next: Email setup screen (1/5)
  • * To find your Evernote e-mail address for incoming mail, login to www.evernote.com and click the Settings link.
  • In the E-mail Setup (2/5) screen, tap Next after the Status fields shows “Completed”.
  • In the E-mail Setup (3/5) screen, enter your screen name, Evernote user name, and password, then tap the checkbox “Save password” and Next.
  • In the E-mail Setup (4/5) screen, select IMAP4 as the Account type and enter “Evernote” as the Name and tap Next.
  • In the E-mail Setup (5/5) screen, Enter the values for incoming and outgoing mail as shown below: Email setup screen (5/5)
    1. Incoming mail: m.evernote.com
    2. Outgoing mail: use your existing outgoing mail server to forward mail
    3. Domain: not used
  • Tap Options
  • In the Options (1/3) screen, select “The Internet” from the Connection drop-down list. You should independently check the Internet connectivity with your Internet browser. Check the “Connect and check” box if you want the application to automatically check for messages. Tap Next.
  • In the Options (2/3) screen, set up the desired number of days that you want your messages to remain on the device and ensure that the checkbox “Require SSL connection” is not checked. Outgoing mail is not currently used. Tap Next. Email options screen (2/3)
  • In the Options (3/3) screen, select “Set message headers only” from the drop down list to avoid overloading the storage on your device. Email options screen (3/3)
  • Tap Finish and you’re done!

Viewing notes on Windows Mobile 5

  • Tap the Start menu and open the Messaging application.
  • Tap Menu in the bottom right corner
  • Tap Send/Receive to download your message headers and open a message. Screenshot of a note
