Evernote is a great tool for teachers to capture notes, organize lesson plans, collaborate on projects, snap photos of whiteboards, and more. Everything you add to your account is automatically synced and made available on all the computers, phones and tablets you use at home or at school. Please note, however, that Evernote is not designed or intended to be used as a learning management system or school-wide collective database.
Evernote is designed for each individual to have his or her own account. We don't offer a way to create, distribute or manage individual accounts in a school setting. In addition, we discourage the sharing of Evernote accounts for privacy and security reasons.
Evernote provides a number of ways to share individual notes as well as whole notebooks. When sharing, you will be given the ability to grant and modify user permissions depending on the type of sharing you are looking to accomplish. Please note, however, that Evernote is not designed or intended to be used as a learning management system or school-wide collective database.
Yes. Most high school students are still minors, so as we state in our Terms of Service and Privacy Policy, we expect that use of Evernote by anyone under the age of 18 will only be done with the guidance, supervision and consent of their parents, guardians and/or authorized school officials. We rely on parents and guardians to ensure minors only use the Service if they can understand their rights and responsibilities as stated in these Terms and our Privacy Policy.
In addition, we encourage you to make sure that your students’ use of Evernote is permitted under your school’s policies on using technology in the classroom.
If you are in the US and have students in your school who are under the age of 13, please see the next FAQ.
Yes, but as we state in our Terms of Service and Privacy Policy, we expect that use of Evernote by anyone under the age of 18 will only be done with the guidance, supervision and consent of their parents, guardians and/or authorized school officials. For teachers in the United States – If you want your students under the age of 13 to create their own Evernote accounts, then you (or your school) assume the responsibility for complying with the U.S. Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (“COPPA”) and, to the extent applicable, The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (“FERPA”). This means you must notify students’ parents/guardians of the information to be collected and obtain parental/guardian consent before collecting and sharing with the Service the personal information of children under the age of 13 in order to establish an account or use the Service. Teachers may, under appropriate, circumstances provide such consent on behalf of parents/guardians. For more information on complying with COPPA, see the Federal Trade Commission’s website at http://www.ftc.gov/privacy/coppafaqs.shtm.
If we became aware that children have created Evernote accounts without such consent, we must delete those accounts.
Evernote users may store any content in their accounts as long as it is in accordance with our Terms of Service and User Guidelines. We know that some schools have policies on how faculty and staff handle student information, and we know there may be laws (such as The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (“FERPA”) in the US) that instruct faculty and staff on the collection, use, and disclosure of student information. We encourage you to consult with your school administrators to ensure that your use of Evernote to store student information is consistent with such applicable policies and laws. And if you have questions about Evernote’s access, use and disclosure of account information, please review our Privacy Policy.
Evernote doesn’t offer a way for groups to purchase multiple premium accounts. Each account will need to be upgraded individually depending on the needs of the individual. We do offer a premium service called Evernote Business that schools may be in interested in using for administrators and faculty, but please note that we do not offer educational discounts for this service.
