Staff DevOps Engineer

About the team

We are looking for a motivated and experienced DevOps engineer to join the Productivity Engineering organization. Your mission will be to enable a highly productive, end-to-end experience for engineers and to accelerate the delivery of our products with high quality, reliability, and customer satisfaction.


Our desktop, mobile, and backend software and services are built on a number of technologies, including iOS, macOS, Android, Windows, Java, Node.js, Docker, and Google Cloud. We recently modernized our clients into a common codebase with React Native, Electron, and Typescript to run across platforms. We are also migrating from our monolithic application and expanding our microservices in our containerized infrastructure to scale to millions of users. We strive to ensure our engineering teams can manage the complexity of these systems and focus their attention to deliver value to our customers. As a Staff DevOps Engineer, you will work closely with a very talented, dedicated and knowledgeable team to measurably improve the entire engineering lifecycle here at Evernote.

What you'll do

  • Own the architecture, design, and implementation to modernize our CI/CD, build, and release infrastructure
  • Partner with software engineering teams to improve the build and release process, increase developer productivity, and enhance product quality
  • Create automation for our Istio Service Mesh, microservices, and cloud infrastructure
  • Integrate with other productivity, test automation, and engineering tools
  • Lead the creation of best practices and standards for the Engineering teams to follow
  • Write code and perform code reviews
  • Mentor and collaborate with other software engineers in the department
  • Participate in an oncall rotation to support engineers that use our CI/CD tools

What you've done

  • You have 5+ years experience in software development and release engineering
  • You are an expert in one or more software languages, including Java, Javascript, and Typescript
  • You are a champion for DevOps and have a passion for automation
  • You have designed and built microservices running in Docker and Kubernetes and shipped them to production with Helm and related deployment systems
  • You are an expert with administration of continuous build, integration, and deployment pipelines at scale
  • You have provisioned and administered cloud infrastructure in GCP and/or AWS
  • You have supported and debugged complex and multi-platform development environments
  • You have driven organization-wide changes and influenced engineering teams with high-quality documentation and communication
  • You have managed and integrated products from third-party vendors and open source software

Preferred experience

  • You have worked with Jenkins, Spinnaker, ArgoCD, or related CI/CD tools
  • You have experience building software on iOS, macOS, Android, and Windows platforms
  • You know Git like the back of your hand
  • You have experience using Jira, Bitbucket, and Artifactory
  • You have experience with scripting languages, such as Python, Groovy, and shell
  • You have experience with Terraform, Ansible, Puppet, or related automation software
  • You have experience with Linux, macOS, and Windows system administration
  • You have experience integrating with observability platforms, such as Prometheus, Datadog and Splunk
  • You are familiar with Scrum or other agile development methodologies
  • You have experience working in multi-functional and globally distributed teams
  • You have used build tools like Xcode, Gradle, Maven, and Fastlane
  • You keep up-to-date with the latest industry trends
