What's New in Evernote Food 2.0

We’ve had a year to use Evernote Food and consider feedback for making it the essential companion for all of your food adventures. The new Evernote Food 2.0 retains the features you’ve come to love, but now it does much more than document your memorable food moments -- it inspires them.

Explore Recipes

The new Evernote Food gives you thousands of recipes from your favorite websites and blogs to browse and try. Clip recipes you’re craving using the app’s built-in web clipper and save them to My Cookbook for later.

Evernote Food will inspire your cooking adventures with a vast collection of delicious recipes from 100 publishers, including food blogs such as Smitten Kitchen as well as Martha Stewart and Epicurious.

My Cookbook

Evernote Food makes cooking easier than ever. Just clip the recipe you want to try and open it in My Cookbook on the iPad or iPhone. Recipes you clip in Evernote Food automatically save to your Evernote account. You can also add tags to your recipes and save them to your preferred notebook.


Let Evernote Food remember the long list of restaurants you want to try. Search nearby (or anywhere in the world) for restaurants you want to check out and add them to your list in Evernote Food. Evernote Food inspires your culinary adventures by giving you a location-based list and map search feature to find the next hot restaurant on your list.

Let's start by familiarizing you with the Evernote Food Home Screen.

The Home Screen

Evernote Food 2.0 includes a beautiful new Home Screen that gives you easy access to all the ways that Evernote Food helps you plan, discover, create and remember memorable food experiences.

  • Explore Recipes: Browse and save recipes from over 100 of the web's top food bloggers and publications

  • My Cookbook: View recipes you clipped from Explore Recipes, as well as notes from your Evernote account that contain recipes

  • Restaurants: Discover new restaurants nearby or anywhere in the world, create a list of all the places you want to try, then keep track of where you've been and the Food Notes you created while there

  • My Meals: View all of your Food Notes in one place, including any that you created using Evernote Food 1.0

  • Account Info button: Manually sync your Evernote account, view and edit your account settings and link your Facebook and Twitter accounts with Evernote Food to make sharing easier

  • New Meal button: Create a new Food Note to capture all of your memorable food experiences


Time to capture and browse your food memories with My Meals.

My Meals

My Meals is where you can browse, edit and share all of the Food Notes you have created with Evernote Food, including those that were created using Evernote Food 1.0. A Food Note contains your photos, captions, and other details about your most memorable meals cooked at home or enjoyed at a restaurant.

To browse Food Notes that you have created, simply swipe to browse, then tap any Food Note to open it.

Creating a Food Note

The core purpose of Evernote Food has always been to help capture all of your most memorable food moments, from documenting favorite recipes to commemorating a special night out. This is easier than ever in Evernote Food 2.0.

To create a new Food Note, tap the + New Meal button (iPad) or the + button (iPhone) at the top of the screen or on the Home Screen.

Tap the fields to enter information for the meal, such as title, date, place, cuisine, tags, and general notes.

Editing a Food Note

Once you have created a Food Note, you may open and edit it any time to capture additional memories and ideas, add or re-arrange photos, update location and more.

To edit a pre-existing Food Note, do the following:

  1. On the Home Screen, tap My Meals to open the Note List.
  2. Tap any Food Note to open it.
  3. Tap the Edit icon Edit icon to add or change details about the meal.
  4. Do any of the following:
    • Reorder photos: Tap and hold the Move iconmove icon next to any photo, then drag the photo to the desire position.
    • Edit a photo caption: Tap the caption field, then enter new text or edit existing text.
    • Remove a photo: Tap the X icon next to the photo you want to delete
    • Edit any other field by tapping it, including restaurant, location, title, date, and meal notes.

Searching Your Food Notes

Whether you can't quite remember the name of the restaurant where you had that spectacular pasta, or you just want to browse all of your best food memories that involve ice cream, Evernote Food helps you find just what you're looking for fast. Evernote's powerful search feature finds your notes based upon any word in a written description or even typed or handwritten text inside photographs of a menu or receipt.

To search your Food Notes on iPad, tap the search iconsearch icon at the top of the screen from anywhere in Evernote Food.

To search your Food Notes on iPhone and iPod Touch, use the search field at the top of My Meals.

Sharing a Food Note

One of the best things about Evernote Food is that it gives you a fast and easy way to share all of your food memories with the people you care about. Whether you use Evernote Food to remember a special occasion, document a favorite recipe, or simply capture photos of an incredible meal with friends, sharing every delicious detail is easier than ever.

To share a Food Note that you have created with Evernote Food, do the following:

  1. On the Home Screen, tap My Meals
  2. Tap the Food Note you want to share to open it
  3. On the right side of the screen, tap the Share icon
  4. Choose your preferred sharing option:
    • Share: Posts a photo and publicly accessible URL of your Food Note on Facebook or Twitter. If you have not previously shared a Food Note, you will be asked to log in to your Facebook or Twitter account.
    • Email: Sends a copy of your Food Note via email.
    • Copy Link: Creates a publicly accessible URL for your Food Note and copies the URL to your clipboard, so that it can easily be shared.


Evernote Food is great for exploring new recipes to try later or inspire creations of your own.

Evernote Food has always been great for helping you capture your most memorable food moments, and now it can help you discover and create new ones with Explore Recipes. A collection of thousands of recipes from over 100 of the best food bloggers and publishers on the web, Explore Recipes lets you browse our seemingly endless collection of delicious food ideas, then clip the ones you want to try directly to your Evernote account to view later.

Browsing Recipes

Not sure what you're in the mood for? Simply swipe to browse hundreds of the top recipes currently available. Every recipe is packed full of beautiful images to get you inspired, and all the details you need to try it out for yourself. To view any recipe, just tap it, and Evernote Food will display the full webpage that the recipe is from.

Searching Recipes

Want to narrow your search or already have a key ingredient in mind? Enter any ingredient in the search field, and Evernote Food will find a variety of recipes that contain that ingredient. You can also search for recipes at any time on iPad by tapping the search icon at the top of the screen, which is accessible everywhere in Evernote Food.

Clipping Recipes

Evernote Food isn't just about helping you find inspiration for your next meal, it's about helping you remember that inspiration forever. Anytime you find a recipe that interests you, save it to your Evernote account by doing the following:

  1. Tap the recipe you want to save to view it
  2. Tap the clip iconclip icon at the top-right of the screen
  3. Add tags, select which notebook you want to save the recipe in, and add additional notes
  4. Tap the checkmark iconcheckmark icon to save the recipe to your Evernote account


Now that you've clipped all these great recipes, you can view them anytime in Evernote Food's 'My Cookbook.'

My Cookbook

Time to start cooking! Cooking is one of the best ways to create food memories that will last a lifetime, and Evernote Food lets you access all of your favorite recipes in one place. Try out a new recipe that you clipped from Evernote Food's 'Explore Recipes' or continue to perfect a favorite dish that you've saved in Evernote. My Cookbook automatically finds notes in your Evernote account that appear to contain recipes, and displays them alongside all of the recipes you've saved with Evernote Food.

Viewing & Editing a Recipe

To view any recipe, tap it. The full Web Clip or note with the recipe will be displayed.

To edit the title, notebook, or tags for a recipe, tap the pencil iconpencil icon in the top-right of the screen.

Importing Recipes by Notebook or Tag

Evernote Food automatically attempts to identify notes in your Evernote account that contain recipes. To improve the accuracy of this process, you may also specify that all notes from specific notebooks or with specific tags also be imported by Evernote Food into My Cookbook.

To set a notebook or tag to automatically import into My Cookbook, do the following:

  1. On the Home Screen, tap the elephant icon at the top-left of the screen to open the 'Settings' menu
  2. Under the 'Recipe Settings' header, tap Include Recipes from Account
  3. Tap either Include Notebooks or Include Tags
  4. Tap the notebook(s) or tag(s) you want Evernote Food to automatically include in My Cookbook

Deleting a Recipe

Tried a recipe out but it just didn't work for you? Not a problem. To remove a recipe from My Cookbook, do the following:

  1. Tap the recipe to open it
  2. Tap the pencil iconpencil icon at the top-right of the screen
  3. Tap Delete

The recipe will be deleted from your Evernote account.

Sharing a Recipe

Use Evernote Food to share all of your favorite recipes with friends and family right from My Cookbook, including via email, social networks and public URL.

To share a recipe from My Cookbook, do the following:

  1. Tap the recipe to open it
  2. Tap the Share icon at the top-right of the screen
  3. Tap one of the following options:
    • Social: Share via Twitter or Facebook. A preview of the image and text that will be included in the post will be displayed. If you have not yet connected your Facebook or Twitter accounts, you will be asked to do so prior to posting.
    • Email: Share via email. The recipe will be sent as a Food Note in the body of the email.
    • Copy Link: Share via public URL. Evernote will create a publicly-accessible URL for the Food Note and copy it to your device's clipboard. Please be aware that public URLs are accessible by anyone via the URL.

Not a Recipe?

At times, Evernote Food may incorrectly identify a note in your Evernote account as a recipe. If this happens, you can remove it from My Cookbook by doing the following:

  1. Tap the note to open it
  2. Tap the pencil iconpencil icon at the top-right of the screen
  3. Tap Hide

The note will no longer be displayed in My Cookbook but will remain in your Evernote account.

Whether there's a local restaurant you've been planning to try, or you're in the mood to explore something new, Evernote Food can help you plan and find great dining experiences no matter where you are. Powered by Foursquare, the Restaurants feature in Evernote Food allows you to find restaurants by location or using the map view, save the places you want to try, and browse the great memories of all the places you've been, all in one place.

Finding Restaurants

Discovering a new restaurant is one of the best ways to create a truly memorable food experience. With Evernote Food, you can explore restaurants nearby or anywhere in the world, get restaurant information, such as address, website and phone number, and view photos from others to help you find the perfect place for a fine meal.

To explore restaurants, tap the Explore tab, then do one of the following:


Enter a cuisine type or a specific restaurant in the search field. By default, Evernote Food will search for matching restaurants nearby, but you can search anywhere you like, making Evernote Food a great tool for planning ahead.


Tap and drag on the map view, then tap Redo Search at the bottom of the map view to display all of the restaurants in the area currently shown on the map. The map view is always displayed in Evernote Food for iPad. To open the map view in Evernote Food for iPhone or iPod Touch, tap the places icon at the top-right of the screen.

To view information for any restaurant, tap it in the map view or in the list.

Saving a Restaurant

Now that you've found another great restaurant, you can clip it to your Evernote account to put it on your list of places to try. To do this, tap the restaurant in the list or map view to open the 'Place Details' dialog, then tap the clipper icon at the top-right of the dialog.

You can view your complete list of saved restaurants at any time by tapping the Saved tab in Restaurants. If GPS or location services are enabled on your device, Evernote Food will even sort the list of saved restaurants by location, so you can quickly view the places on your list that are near your current location.

Viewing Visited Restaurants

At times, reliving the memory of a truly great meal can be almost as good as the food itself. In Evernote Food, every time you create a Food Note to capture your experiences at a restaurant, you are creating a new memory that will be saved in Evernote forever.

To view all of the restaurants you have visited and all of the Food Notes associated with that location, tap the My Meals tab in Restaurants. Any restaurants that have been associated with Food Notes in Evernote Food will be displayed.

To view the details of any visited restaurant tap it in the list or map view. Food Notes will be listed, and you can tap any of them to view the full note.

Making a Reservation

Time to make a reservation and capture even more food memories. Evernote Food is integrated with OpenTable, making it easy to book a reservation anytime, whether its a new place you've been dying to try or an old favorite.

To book a restaurant reservation, do the following:

  1. Tap a restaurant in the 'Explore' or 'Saved' or 'My Meals' tab to view the restaurants 'Place Details'
  2. If the restaurant offer reservations through OpenTable, tap Make a reservation above the phone number. You will be directed in-app to the OpenTable reservation service.
  3. Follow the on-screen instructions to book your reservation
