Select to save copies of the scanned images in the specified folder on the computer after the files are saved to Evernote.

The checkbox is not selected by default.

[Do not send scanned files to Evernote] checkbox

Select to save the scanned images in the specified folder on the computer, not in Evernote.

This is enabled when the [Save copies of scanned files to] checkbox is selected.

Image saving folder

Displays the destination folder to save the scanned images.

[Continuous scanning] checkbox

When this checkbox is selected, a message appears to ask if you want to continue scanning after the document loaded to the ScanSnap is scanned.

The checkbox is not selected by default.

To continue scanning, load another document in the ScanSnap, and click the [Continue Scanning] button or press the Scan button on the ScanSnap. To finish scanning, click the [Finish Scanning] button.

When some documents are scanned continuously and those documents are recognized as the same type of document, they are saved as a single note.

One PDF file can contain up to 1,000 pages.

For Evernote Premium accounts, the limit for the file size of a note is 100 MB.

The button changes to the [Hide Advanced Settings] button.

Items displayed in the details of the scan settings are as follows:

  • [Paper size] pop-up menu

  • [Multifeed detection]

  • [Carrier sheet mode] pop-up menu

  • [Carrier sheet paper size] pop-up menu

  • [Text recognition language] pop-up menu

  • [Auto power off] pop-up menu

  • [Launch ScanSnap at login]

[Hide Advanced Settings] button

The button changes to the [Show Advanced Settings] button.

[Paper size] pop-up menu

Shows a list of the paper sizes that can be scanned by the ScanSnap.

[Automatic] is specified by default.

You can specify one of the following:

  • Automatic

  • A4 (210 × 297 mm)

  • A5 (148 × 210 mm)

  • A6 (105 × 148 mm)

  • B5(JIS) (182 × 257 mm)

  • B6(JIS) (128 × 182 mm)

  • Post card (100 × 148 mm)

  • Business card (55 × 90 mm)

  • Letter (8.5 × 11 in. (216 × 279.4 mm))

  • Legal (8.5 × 14 in. (216 × 355.6 mm))

HINT
  • When [Business card (55 × 90 mm)] is specified, the ScanSnap automatically detects the length (feeding direction) and width of each business card regardless of whether the business card is loaded in landscape or portrait orientation.

  • When [Automatic] is specified, the ScanSnap detects the edges of the document to determine the paper size.

However, the ScanSnap may fail to detect the edges of the following documents and scan such a document as a different size from the original size.

In this case, the length of the scanned image is 6.5 mm longer than that of the original document, and the width of the scanned image is 220 mm.

    • Documents that are not square or rectangular

    • Lightly colored documents

    • Thin documents

    • Glossy documents

    • Documents extremely skewed when scanned

[Multifeed detection]

When [On] is selected, the ScanSnap senses overlapped documents to detect a multifeed (feeding multiple sheets of documents at a time).

[On] is specified by default.

When a multifeed is detected during a scan, the scan is temporarily stopped and a multifeed detection window ([ScanSnap Manager Evernote Thumbnail] window) is displayed.

ATTENTION

  • At a place of high altitude, even if [On] is selected, a multifeed may not be detected properly.

In such a case, select [Off].

  • When you scan a plastic card, if [On] is selected, a multifeed may be detected wrongly.

In such a case, select [Off].

[Carrier sheet mode] pop-up menu

Specify how to save the scanned image when a document is scanned using the Carrier Sheet.

There are two ways as follows:

  • One double-page spread image

By folding a document larger than A4/Letter size (such as A3 and B4) in half and scanning in double-sided mode, the two sides are merged into a single image.

  • Two separate images (front and back)

This mode can be used to scan documents that can be damaged easily such as photographs, or non-standard size documents that are difficult to load directly such as clippings.

[Two separate images (front and back)] is specified by default.

[Carrier sheet paper size] pop-up menu

Select the size of the scanned image that is saved when a document is scanned using the Carrier Sheet.

[Automatic] is specified by default.

The following table shows the sizes (width × length) that can be selected.

HINT
  • When [Automatic] is specified, the length and width of the scanned image may be larger than the size of the original document. In such a case, perform the following operations. If the problem persists, specify the document size for scanning in [Carrier sheet paper size].

    • Insert the document parallel to the edges of the Carrier Sheet

    • Load the Carrier Sheet on the ScanSnap and secure the Carrier Sheet with the side guides

  • When [Carrier sheet size (216 × 297 mm)] is specified, the scanned image is saved at the same size as the Carrier Sheet.

  • When [Two separate images (front and back)] is specified for [Carrier sheet mode] and [Automatic] is selected, the size of the scanned document is automatically determined as one of the standard sizes listed in the above table (excluding Custom and Carrier sheet size). Therefore, it is not necessary to specify [Carrier sheet paper size] based on the size of the loaded document.

[Text recognition language] pop-up menu

Specify the language for text recognition on the scanned images.

Specifying the same language as the scanned document increases the accuracy of [Make PDFs searchable] and [Automatically rotate images].

The same language as the operating system is specified by default.

You can specify one of the following:

  • Japanese

  • English

  • French

  • German

  • Chinese (simplified)

  • Chinese (traditional)

  • Dutch

  • Danish

  • Finnish

  • Swedish

[Auto power off] pop-up menu

Specify the time to turn off the ScanSnap automatically when it has not been used for a long time.

[After 4 hours] is specified by default.

When [Off] is specified, the ScanSnap is not automatically turned off.

You can specify one of the following:

  • After 1 hour

  • After 2 hours

  • After 4 hours

  • After 8 hours

  • Never

ATTENTION

There may be up to a few minutes of time difference between the specified time and the actual time when the ScanSnap is automatically turned off.

HINT
  • When continuous scanning is enabled, the ScanSnap is not automatically turned off.

  • To reset the time until auto power-off of the ScanSnap, perform one of the following:

    • Load a document in the ScanSnap

    • Start scanning a document

    • Switch the user

    • Resume the computer from sleep mode

[Launch ScanSnap at login]

Select [On] to automatically launch ScanSnap Manager at login.

[On] is specified by default.
