The [Receipts] tab consists of the following:

[File format] pop-up menu

Specify the file format of the scanned images to be saved.

[JPEG] is specified by default.

  • PDF

Saves the scanned images as a PDF file (*.pdf).

  • JPEG

Saves the scanned images as a JPEG file (*.jpg).

[Make PDFs searchable] checkbox

Performs text recognition during scanning and creates a searchable PDF file.

The checkbox is selected by default.

[Color mode] pop-up menu

Specify the color mode of the scanned images to be saved.

[Automatic] is specified by default.

  • Automatic

Automatically detects the color of each document and scans in color or gray.

  • Color

Always saves the scanned image as color.

  • Gray

Always saves the scanned image as gray.

ATTENTION

  • About [Automatic]

    • It takes slightly longer to scan documents than in [Color] mode.

    • The following types of documents may be recognized as gray pages.

      • Lightly colored documents

      • Documents with small colored portion

      • Documents printed in two colors that are close to black such as dark gray

      • Documents that have color only in the areas that are within 16 mm from the edges

  • The file size may become larger for the following types of documents:

    • Documents with many photographs or figures and few characters

    • Documents with a complicated layout; for example, a multi-column layout

    • Documents with characters on a patterned background

[Image resolution] pop-up menu

Specify the image resolution of the scanned images to be saved.

[Better (Color/Gray: 300 dpi, B&W: 600 dpi)] is specified by default.

  • Best (Color/Gray: 600 dpi, B&W: 1200 dpi)

Select this mode to scan documents in a higher image quality than [Better (Color/Gray: 300 dpi, B&W: 600 dpi)].

Note that the scanning speed may become very slow when [Best (Color/Gray: 600 dpi, B&W: 1200 dpi)] is selected.

  • Better (Color/Gray: 300 dpi, B&W: 600 dpi)

Select this mode to scan documents in a higher image quality than [Good (Color/Gray: 200 dpi, B&W: 400 dpi)].

  • Good (Color/Gray: 200 dpi, B&W: 400 dpi)

Select this mode to scan documents in high quality.

  • Quick (Color/Gray: 150 dpi, B&W: 300 dpi)

Select this mode to scan documents quickly.

HINT

The higher the resolution is set, the longer it takes for scanning and results in larger file size.

[Compression] pop-up menu

Specify the compression rate of the scanned images to be saved.

[Medium] is specified by default.

The higher the compression rate, the smaller the file size, and vice versa.

[Scanning side] pop-up menu

Specify the scanning side of the document to be scanned.

[Single-sided] is specified by default.

  • Double-sided

Scans both sides of the document in a single scan.

  • Single-sided

Scans only one side of the document.

[Automatically rotate images] checkbox

Automatically rotates the scanned image if you scan a document sideways or upside down.

The checkbox is selected by default.

ATTENTION

Since this option determines the page orientation based on the character strings printed on the document, some documents may be rotated to the wrong orientation.

Clear the checkbox when you scan the following types of documents:

  • Documents with many extremely large or small characters

  • Documents on which pitches between lines or characters are extremely narrow, or characters are overlapped

  • Documents with many characters contacting underlines or borders

  • Documents with many photographs or figures and few characters

  • Documents with characters on an unevenly colored background

    Example: Shaded characters

  • Documents with many decorated characters

    Example: Decorated characters (embossed/outlined)

  • Documents with characters on a patterned background

Example: Characters overlapping illustrations and diagrams

  • Documents with characters printed in various directions such as drawings

  • Documents written using only capital characters

  • Documents with handwritten characters

  • Skewed documents

  • Documents written in an unsupported language (a language other than Japanese, English, French, German, Chinese (simplified), Chinese (traditional), Dutch, Danish, Finnish, and Swedish)

  • Documents with complex layouts

  • Documents with a large amount of image noise

  • Documents with faint characters

  • Documents that look patchy

[Remove blank pages] checkbox

Detects blank pages from the batch and automatically removes them from the output images.

The checkbox is selected by default.

For example, if you specify "double-sided" to scan a document with contents on only one side, only the image on this side will be saved because this option removes blank pages (the other side).

If all pages are recognized as blank, no image will be saved.

ATTENTION

The following types of documents may be recognized as blank pages. After scanning, confirm that there are no pages that were deleted by mistake.

If some pages were deleted by mistake, clear the checkbox and try scanning again.

  • Documents containing only a few characters (two, three characters or less)

  • Documents of a single color (plain or black)

[Reduce bleed-through] checkbox

Reduces bleed-through in the scanned image.

The checkbox is not selected by default.

ATTENTION

It is recommended that you clear this checkbox if you want to perform text recognition.

Text recognition rate may drop if this checkbox is selected.

HINT

Clear the checkbox when scanning light colored documents.
