Frequently Asked Questions
Mermaid Maker is an AI Diagrams tool that generates diagrams from a natural-language description. You can optionally upload a PDF for context to guide generation. After the diagram is created it’s saved as an editable Mermaid note and opened in the Evernote client, where rendering and further editing take place. Mermaid Maker helps turn ideas into structured visuals without requiring you to write Mermaid code up front.
Mermaid Maker is part of Evernote’s AI Diagrams features, designed to help you add visual structure to notes and projects. It converts text descriptions into Mermaid diagrams, then saves them as editable notes. Because the generated Mermaid source is accessible in Evernote, you can refine the diagram, copy the source, or export imagery from your Evernote workspace, keeping visuals close to the rest of your project documentation.
Mermaid Maker supports a defined set of diagram families: flowchart, mindmap, sequence, entity-relationship, Gantt, class, and pie charts. If your natural-language description matches one of these families, Mermaid Maker will generate a corresponding Mermaid note that you can edit in Evernote. For diagrams outside these families, you can still edit the Mermaid source in Evernote to adapt or export the diagram for use elsewhere.
Yes. You can optionally upload a PDF to provide context when generating a diagram. The PDF helps the AI interpret relationships and details in your description, producing a diagram that better reflects source content. After generation the diagram is saved as an editable Mermaid note in Evernote and opened in the Evernote client for rendering and further edits.
Once generated, the diagram is saved into Evernote as an editable Mermaid note. The note is opened in the Evernote client where rendering and editing occur. The Mermaid source is stored with the note so you can return to edit the code, copy it out of Evernote, or export an image from your note to reuse the visual in other documents or presentations.
Yes. After Mermaid Maker generates a diagram, the Mermaid source is available and editable inside the Evernote client. You can modify nodes, relationships, layout directives, and other Mermaid syntax directly in the note. Once edited, Evernote renders the updated diagram in the client. You can also copy the Mermaid source from Evernote to paste or render it elsewhere.
There are a few reuse options: edit and render the diagram in Evernote, export an image of the rendered diagram from your note, or copy the Mermaid source code from the editable note and paste it into other tools or documents that support Mermaid. Because the source is stored in Evernote, you can also duplicate the note, adapt it for new contexts, or share it with collaborators.
No. Mermaid Maker itself generates diagrams from natural-language descriptions and does not accept pasted, typed, or imported Mermaid code as input to the generator. However, after a diagram is created and saved as an editable Mermaid note, you can paste or edit Mermaid code inside that note within the Evernote client and then have Evernote render the updated diagram.
Yes. After a diagram is generated and rendered in the Evernote client, you can export or save an image of the rendered diagram from your note, depending on the Evernote client options available to you. Another option is to copy the Mermaid source from Evernote and render it in an external tool that accepts Mermaid, then export an image there. Both workflows make it straightforward to reuse visuals in slides or documents.
Yes. Because generated diagrams are saved as notes in Evernote, you can share those notes with collaborators. Shared users can open the note in the Evernote client, view the rendered diagram, and edit the Mermaid source if they have editing permissions. Collaboration happens through Evernote’s note-sharing and editing features, keeping diagram content and discussion in one place.
Yes. Sequence diagrams are among the supported families. Provide a clear natural-language description of the participants and message sequence, and Mermaid Maker will generate a Mermaid sequence diagram saved as an editable note in Evernote. You can refine the Mermaid source in the Evernote client after generation to adjust timing, labels, or layout.
Yes. Gantt charts are supported by Mermaid Maker as one of the recognized diagram families. Describe tasks, durations, dependencies, and milestones in natural language (optionally include a PDF for context), and the tool will generate a Mermaid Gantt note. You can then edit the Mermaid source inside Evernote to tweak scheduling details and rendering.
Yes. A key part of the workflow is that the generated Mermaid source is saved with the note and can be edited inside the Evernote client. That editable source lets you fine-tune node text, layout hints, and structure. You can also copy the source out of Evernote to reuse it in other Mermaid-capable tools or to keep a version history in your notes.
Yes. Mermaid Maker focuses on the supported families (flowchart, mindmap, sequence, entity-relationship, Gantt, class, and pie). It does not generate diagrams for families such as state, sankey, quadrant, user-journey, timeline, use-case, C4, git-graph, or block diagrams. For unsupported types you can still craft or adapt Mermaid source in Evernote or export the code for use in other tools.
No. Mermaid Maker does not provide a live or rendered preview during the generation process. After you submit your natural-language description (with an optional PDF), the diagram is generated and saved as an editable Mermaid note. Rendering and further editing take place in the Evernote client, where you can view and refine the final diagram.
