Welcome to the Evernote community! Evernote is a place to keep your ideas, plans, and work, and to share them with the people you choose. We want it to stay somewhere you can trust, so we ask everyone to follow a few simple rules.
- Keep it legal. Don’t use Evernote for anything illegal or to promote illegal activities. That includes content supporting or promoting in any way terrorism or violent extremism. You're responsible for following the laws that apply to you and to the data in your account.
- Respect other people’s privacy. Don't share someone's private information without their permission. That includes their home address, phone number, email address, or ID documents. Don't publish a note listing someone's details, even if they gave them to you privately. Don't use anyone's personal data in ways that break the law or their rights, and don't share what isn't yours to share, like insider information or confidential material you learned through work or under a nondisclosure agreement.
- No spam. Don't use Evernote to send unsolicited ads or promotions, run pyramid schemes, carry out commercial activity without our approval, or funnel people to another website. Sharing a note with your team is fine, sending the same promotional note to fifty strangers isn't.
- No scams or phishing. Don't use notes to trick people into handing over passwords, payment details, or personal information. Phishing links, fake login pages, and fake invoices all count.
- Share only with people who want to hear from you. Our sharing and collaboration features are for people you know or work with. Don't send notes or invitations to anyone who hasn't asked to hear from you. And if someone doesn't have an Evernote account yet, only invite them if you're sure they'd want you to.
- Only post what’s yours. Don't upload or share content that infringes someone else's copyright, trademark, or other intellectual property. Quoting a few lines from a book in your own study notes is fine. Publishing whole chapters isn't.
- No viruses or malware. Don't upload files, code, or links built to damage or take over someone's device. Don't ruin it for everyone.
- Be yourself. Don't claim to work at or be affiliated with Evernote if you don't, and don't impersonate another person or company in your notes. That applies to parody and satire, too.
- No sexual content. Don’t publish or share content that’s sexually explicit or contains nudity. And never share intimate images of someone without their consent, or threaten to.
- Keep shared content respectful. Don't publish or share content that's threatening, abusive, harassing, defamatory, obscene, hateful, or discriminatory. That includes attacks on people based on disability, ethnicity, national origin, sex, sexual orientation, gender, gender identity, religion, or race.
- Never put children at risk. We have zero tolerance here. Don't upload, share, or link to anything that sexually exploits, endangers, or harms anyone under 18. That includes child sexual abuse material (CSAM) and any content that sexualizes a minor, whether real or simulated. We take immediate action on the content and the account, and report it to the appropriate authorities.
- Zero tolerance for self-harm and suicide. Content that discusses these topics for support, awareness, or recovery is always welcome. What we don't allow is content that promotes, encourages, or gives instructions for suicide, self-harm, or eating disorders.
- Don’t interfere with elections. Don't post false or misleading information about voting or elections.
If you come across Content that breaks these rules, the quickest way to flag it is in Evernote itself: open the note, select More actions, then Report this note. A member of our team will review it and take the appropriate action on the Content and the account.
Once we've reviewed a report, here's what we may do:
- Remove or disable the Content if it does not comply with these guidelines
- Issue a strike against the account, which can lead to suspension if it happens again
- Suspend the account straight away for the most serious violations
- Report illegal content to the appropriate authorities
We'll let you know the outcome of your report, and we will inform the user who posted the reported Content in case we take any measures, according to applicable law.
Thanks for helping to make Evernote a great experience for everyone!
